The basin at Crayton Cove
The Coast Pilot says a large municipal yacht basin is in Crayton Cove, that there is a dockmaster who assigns berths and enforces the regulations, and that the dockmaster can be contacted on VHF-FM channel 16. Berths here are assigned, not chosen. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection lists Naples City Dock as a designated Clean Marina in its South District.
What is not on this page is the dock's own numbers – slip count, lengths, rates, depths alongside. No official page we could read publishes them, so they are missing here rather than guessed. Call the dockmaster on channel 16 for those.
In through Gordon Pass
Gordon Pass, 16.5 miles north of Cape Romano, is the entrance to Naples Bay, and the Coast Pilot says the channel is marked by a buoy, lights and daybeacons. From the pass it is about 2.5 miles north to the U.S. Route 41 highway bridge at Naples, with the town on the way.
Two no-wake stretches sit on that run: the Coast Pilot gives one in Gordon Pass between Daybeacons 7 and 10, and one in Naples Bay between Daybeacon 29 and the bridge at Naples. Coming from seaward, the Coast Pilot lists a microwave tower, several water tanks and numerous hotels and apartment houses as prominent in Naples from offshore, and says the kiosk of the 1,000-foot municipal fishing pier is prominent inshore.
The inland way from Marco
There is an 11-mile inland waterway between Marco and Naples. The Coast Pilot says it traverses creeks, bays and dredged landcuts and is well marked by lights and daybeacons, and it carries two controlling depths with their years: in 2006, 7.6 feet to Naples, and in 2000, 3.6 feet to the junction with the Gordon Pass entrance channel.
The years are part of those figures. A centerline controlling depth from 2006 describes the centerline as surveyed then, and the DepthNote above says what a figure like that can and cannot tell you.
The head of the harbor
Naples Bay ends for most boats at the U.S. Route 41 (Tamiami Trail) highway bridge at the head of the harbor, which the Coast Pilot gives as a 32-foot fixed span with a clearance of 10 feet. Its own comment is short: few craft go above it.
Below the bridge there are several boatyards and marinas on Naples Bay. North of Gordon Pass the next way in from the Gulf of America is Doctors Pass, 5 miles up the coast, where the Coast Pilot reported shoaling to less than 2 feet in the channel to Daybeacon 14 in 2013.
Good to know
- Berths are assigned: a dockmaster at the municipal yacht basin assigns them and enforces the regulations; he can be contacted on VHF-FM channel 16.
- The bridge at the head: the U.S. Route 41 (Tamiami Trail) bridge is a 32-foot fixed span with a clearance of 10 feet, and the Coast Pilot says few craft go above it.
- No wake: in Gordon Pass between Daybeacons 7 and 10, and in Naples Bay between Daybeacon 29 and the bridge at Naples.
- Dated depths: the 7.6 feet on the waterway from Marco is a 2006 figure and the 3.6 feet a 2000 one; Doctors Pass was reported at less than 2 feet in 2013.
- Clean Marina: Florida's DEP lists Naples City Dock among its designated marinas in the South District.
