Operator's rate pageOverview
San Marco and Menendez are the two mooring fields in front of the town, one either side of the Bridge of Lions, serviced and maintained by the St. Augustine Municipal Marina. They take mooring balls for vessels up to 120 ft, and the marina assigns them by the length and draft of the vessel and the duration of the visit.
A launch runs seven days a week; call the marina on VHF 71 to arrange a pick-up. Registration gives you proximity cards for the secured restrooms, showers, laundry and lounge, and dinghy dockage is complimentary to all registered guests.
The city publishes two sets of rates, and they do not agree
The City of St. Augustine puts mooring rates in two places: a rate sheet it hosts as a PDF, and the Downtown Moorings page on its website. For this pair of fields the two documents agree on exactly one line — the transient day rate of $35.00. Every other rate differs.
The monthly transient rate is $620.00 on the rate sheet and $695.00 on the city's moorings page. The day rate for a St. Johns County resident is $15.50 on the rate sheet and $25.00 on the moorings page. The same split runs through the city's third field at Salt Run, where the transient day rate, the monthly rate and the county resident rate all differ between the same two documents. This is not one stale line; it is most of a city's mooring tariff.
The dates do not settle it either. The rate sheet says at the top that the rates are effective 1 April 2025, but nothing on it says which of the two figures the city is charging today, and the website page carries no effective date at all.
So this page shows both figures and decides nothing. Before a monthly stay, or any stay where the county resident rate matters, call the marina office on 904-825-1026 and have the amount confirmed.
Booking and arriving
Moorings here are reserved, just as dockage is reserved. If a mooring ball is open, the city asks visitors not to assume it is available for the taking. Availability of long-term and resident moorings in the San Marco and Menendez fields may be limited.
On arrival, contact the marina office on VHF 16 or VHF 71; boats passing the Bridge of Lions request an opening on VHF 9. Once you are secured on the mooring, register at the marina office. The monthly rate is limited to 3 months within a 6 month period, and an annual rate must be paid at arrival.
Resident rates and what they ask for
The reduced city and county rates are not simply claimed. On top of the address shown on the vessel's Florida registration, the city asks for a residential address verified by one of three documents: a driver's license, a state ID, or a vehicle registration — any one of them, and a vehicle registration is not a photo ID. For stays of 7 days or more, two further documents are required on top of that; for shorter stays they are not.

Good to know
- Before you count on a rate: the city's two documents agree only on the $35.00 transient day rate. Have the amount confirmed on 904-825-1026.
- Not first come: moorings are reserved, just as dockage is reserved — an open ball is not a free ball.
- Dinghy dockage: complimentary to all registered guests.
- Three months in six: the monthly rate is limited to 3 months within a 6 month period, and an annual rate must be paid at arrival.
- Long-term and resident moorings: the city says availability in these fields may be limited.
Questions
Is the monthly mooring rate at San Marco and Menendez $620.00 or $695.00?
Both figures are published by the City of St. Augustine today: $620.00 on its mooring rate sheet, $695.00 on its Downtown Moorings page. The rate sheet does not settle it: it is dated effective 1 April 2025, and the moorings page carries no date at all. We show both and decide neither — call the marina office on 904-825-1026 and have the figure confirmed before a monthly stay.
What does a night on a downtown St. Augustine mooring cost?
$35.00 for a transient boat — the one rate the city's two documents agree on. The St. Johns County resident day rate does not agree: the rate sheet says $15.50 and the moorings page says $25.00.
Can I pick up an empty mooring ball at St. Augustine?
No. Moorings are reserved, just as dockage is reserved, and the city asks visitors not to assume an open ball is available for the taking. Contact the marina office on VHF 16 or VHF 71, and register at the office once you are secured.
What do I need for the resident mooring rate?
Besides the address on the vessel's Florida registration, one of three documents verifying a residential address: a driver's license, a state ID or a vehicle registration. For stays of 7 days or more, two further documents are required as well.
