Overview

Long Key State Park sits on the Atlantic side of Long Key, at 67400 Overseas Highway, and is open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to sunset. Its campsites are hike-in and tent only, strung along the Atlantic shore, with no electric or water hook-ups; there are restrooms, cold outdoor showers for campers, two refillable water stations, and a waterside picnic area with covered pavilions.

Two trails are listed for the park, the Golden Orb at 1.1 miles and the Layton Trail on the bayside. The park says the Golden Orb Trail and all primitive camping have been closed for construction since 12 July 2026, so do not plan a walk around it; the Layton Trail is the one the park still names without a closure.

Arriving by water

There is no boat ramp in the park, and for trailered boats it points to local marinas instead. Your own kayak or canoe is welcome, and the ranger station rents kayaks. The water inside the park is generally shallow, with a bottom covered in seagrass.

Offshore, the Coast Pilot's Long Key Anchorage lies 3 miles north-north-west of Tennessee Reef Light in 15 to 18 ft over a soft bottom, open to southerly winds. Depths change – check the current chart.

Fees

Entry is $4.50 for one person and $6 for two, or $2.50 per person on foot or by bike. Monroe County adds a camping surcharge of $2.50 per night and site on top of the park's own camping fee.
